LANSING, Mich.—Sen. Patrick Colbeck (second from left) participated Wednesday in a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new Michigan National Guard Service Member, Veteran & Family Assistance Center (SVFAC) in Lansing.

SVFACs may be considered “one-stop-shopping” for service members, veterans, retirees and families—providing assistance with a simplified process of accessing a variety of available services and support.

“In addition to the National Guard, reserve and active-duty population, Michigan is home to more than 680,000 veterans who have faithfully served this nation,” said Colbeck, R-Canton. “Our veterans deserve nothing less than the best care, programs and services we can offer, in recognition of their service.”

Basic services of the center include, but are not limited to:

• Information and assistance in obtaining identification cards and enrollment in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System;
• Provide information on TRICARE Health and Dental Programs;
• Provide retirement counseling and information to current reservists, retirees, gray area retirees and members of their families;
• Referrals to local county and state agencies that assist with resolving financial problems;
• Providing information, resources and referral to various military and civilian agencies that assist with an array of needs; and
• Financial counseling and non-medical counseling services through the Army Career and Alumni Program (Military OneSource and Joint Family Support Assistance programs).

The hours for the facility are Monday—Friday 8 a.m.—4 p.m. The phone number is (517) 481-9889 and is located at 3423 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Lansing, MI 48906.

For military members, veterans and their families in Wayne County, the Assistance Center is located at the Taylor Armory at 12450 Beech Daly Rd, Taylor, MI 48180. The phone number is (734) 946-2553.
