Sen. Albert comments on 2023 State of the State address

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Thomas Albert, R-Lowell, on Wednesday commented on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s 2023 State of the State address, issuing the following statement:

“The governor and I have sharply different visions for moving Michigan forward into a brighter future. There is a better way to do things than she proposes.

“She has proposed relatively narrow tax relief that helps only some Michiganders — we should instead adopt broader plans that lower taxes for everyone in our state. Her economic development plan focuses on special treatment for specific companies and her politically-favored labor unions, when we instead should be focused on making Michigan a better place to create jobs across the board in every community. The governor would move our state backward — and undermine economic development efforts — if she tries to repeal our ‘Right to Work’ laws that protect worker freedoms.

“The governor says she fights for a woman’s right to choose, but she promotes only the choice that leads to the death of a baby instead of alternatives to support pregnant mothers who might consider adoption instead of abortion.

“We all want to make Michigan a better place to live, work and raise a family. I will always try to work with anyone, including the governor, to achieve common goals that improve our state. But there is a better path for getting there than what we have heard from the governor.”
