LANSING, Mich. Sen. John Proos recently toured new teaching and on-campus housing facilities at Lake Michigan College (LMC) in Benton Harbor.

“It is wonderful to see the educational opportunities that are currently available or are opening up soon for Southwest Michigan residents here in our own backyard,” said Proos, R-St. Joseph. “In an increasingly global, technological economy, it is more important than ever that Michigan has a skilled work force. Jobs in the science and technology fields are available and rapidly growing in numbers here in Michigan and nationwide. Lake Michigan College is stepping up to help prepare area workers for success.”

Proos joined LMC President Dr. Robert Harrison on a tour of the college’s science, nursing and dental labs. The senator then toured LMC’s new wine-making program, new residence hall and the site of the new Hanson Technology Center.

Once completed, the new $10 million Hanson Technology Center will provide students with state-of-the-art, hands-on training in an effort to give students the tools to meet the region’s growing workforce needs.

LMC’s wine-making program will offer students the chance to earn an associate degree in enology (the study of winemaking) and viticulture (the study of grape cultivation).

The college’s residence hall, Beckwith Hall, opened in 2014 to house more than 180 students.
