LANSING — Sen. John Proos today encouraged Southwest Michigan families who are planning a summer getaway this year to consider a “staycation” in Michigan and take advantage of the state’s numerous natural resources and family-friendly outdoor activities.
“Michigan offers families a wide variety of outstanding outdoor summer activities, such as boating, fishing, golfing and attending local festivals,” said Proos, R-St. Joseph. “A good way to deal with high gas prices and support your local community is to take a staycation this summer. Get out and enjoy all Michigan has to offer, especially the activities available right here in our own backyard.”
Visit www.Michigan.org for help planning your Michigan vacation, including details on places to stay, restaurants and upcoming events. Free copies of a full-color, 120-page travel guide, Michigan Travel Ideas magazine, are also available for download on the website. Residents can request a copy of this helpful trip planner by contacting Proos’ office at 517-373-6960 or by emailing email@example.com.
The guide is available in an interactive, web-based digital edition that features videos, slide shows and audio. Residents may also stay up-to-date by signing up for a free travel newsletter on the site.
“With nearly 11,000 inland lakes and 3,288 miles of Great Lakes shoreline, Michigan’s water wonderland makes for an outstanding summer experience,” Proos said. “I encourage everyone to take advantage of Southwest Michigan’s beautiful beaches, historic lighthouses and world-class golf courses. All state revenues from a Michigan staycation go toward funding priorities like education and public safety, rather than going out of state."
