LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Nonprofit Association has reappointed Sen. John Proos as co-chair of its Michigan Nonprofit Caucus, the lawmaker announced on Monday.

“It is an honor to serve again as co-chair of this caucus dedicated to assisting nonprofit community-based groups,” said Proos, R-St. Joseph. “Nonprofit organizations in Southwest Michigan and throughout the state do vital work, and they deserve our support.”

The Michigan Nonprofit Association (MNA) was created in 1990 as a private, non-governmental organization dedicated to serving the diverse nonprofit sector through civic engagement; capacity-building; data and technology; training; and advocacy across the state of Michigan.

The MNA’s Michigan Nonprofit Caucus is a bipartisan, bicameral group of 23 state lawmakers focused on legislative and regulatory issues that impact nonprofit organizations and foundations in Michigan. The aim of the caucus is to support Michigan’s nonprofit sector through education and legislative action.

There are currently 3,449 Southwest Michigan nonprofit organizations that employ approximately 37,379 individuals.

“Nonprofit organizations make a significant contribution to Michigan’s economy, spending more than $80 billion each year and employing 11 percent of the state’s workforce,” Proos said. “I look forward to working with other members of the caucus to enact legislation to help nonprofits continue to enrich Michigan.”
