Proos celebrates Michigan’s 175th birthday, urges families to learn more about state’s history

LANSING — State Sen. John Proos, R-St. Joseph, honored Michigan’s 175th birthday on Thursday on the floor of the state Senate and encouraged families to learn more about the history of the Great Lakes State.

Proos offers free educational publications through his office. Portraits of Michigan: History and Facts on Michigan is designed for teachers, parents and older children. It presents state historical figures and facts in an educational format, including maps and quizzes. For younger kids, Getting to Know Michigan: A Coloring Book is available.
