LANSING—State Senator Mike Nofs upheld a Michigan Senate tradition Thursday by providing colleagues with a special meal in honor of his first bill being signed into law.

Senate Bill 1006, now Public Act 214 of 2009, extends the reporting deadlines for municipalities, including Battle Creek, allowing them to receive funding to continue paying existing debts.

“It was an honor to commemorate the bill signing with my Senate colleagues, and I also thank the governor for her support,” said Nofs, R-Battle Creek. “I was happy to continue the tradition of the first bill meal by providing delicious offerings from some of the finest establishments in the 19th District, and I thank them all for helping us celebrate.”

Restaurants that contributed food to Nofs’ first bill meal included the Kellogg Company, Schuler’s Restaurant of Marshall, The Hunt Club of Battle Creek and Daryl’s of Jackson.

“It is a privilege to serve in this great body, and an honor to celebrate with such dedicated public servants,” Nofs said. “I can’t wait to continue the work we’ve started.”
