LANSING-Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof, R-West Olive, today issued the statement below regarding the recent court ruling in Cook vs. State of Michigan:
“I am happy to see the lawsuit brought against the state by the Michigan Education Association come to a close in the Court of Claims. This suit was a waste of taxpayer dollars and resources. Furthermore, it was a waste of union members’ hard earned money.
The MEA did not win the public debate over Right to Work legislation and instead of being a champion for workers’ rights, the organization decided to pursue legal action in order to push their own agenda. Freedom to Work legislation was passed as part of an open and transparent legislative process. As sponsor of the legislation, I am pleased to see this unnecessary litigation come to an end so taxpayer dollars can be spent on taxpayer priorities, instead of wasteful lawsuits.”
