LANSING—Senator Arlan Meekhof, R-West Olive, today released the following statement on the passage of House bills 4188-90, which protect faith-based adoption agencies under state law.
“As many people know, this issue is close to my heart and for that reason, in addition to many others, I felt it was time to take action on this legislative package. There are a number of adoption agencies in Michigan with various missions, from Catholic to Methodist. There are even agencies that focus on specific ethnic backgrounds as part of their mission.
“This legislation protects the valuable role those different agencies play in our communities, provides positive choices for families and codifies decades of existing policy that have helped place thousands of vulnerable children in loving homes.
“No child should go without a loving home because of state regulations and this legislation prevents just that from happening.”
