**MEDIA ADVISORY** Emmons hosting ‘Shine the Light on Human Trafficking – Phase II: Keys to the Future’

WHO:
Sen. Judy Emmons, R-Sheridan; Cook County (IL) Circuit Court Judge Rosemary Grant Higgins; investigative and enforcement professionals; current and former legislators; and concerned citizens.

WHAT:
Emmons will host the second Shine the Light on Human Trafficking Day at the Michigan Capitol. The event, “Phase II – Keys to the Future,” is part of an ongoing effort to raise awareness about the crime and support victims. Highlights of the day include hearing Judge Higgins talk about addressing trafficking from the bench, seeing testimony on trafficking during a committee hearing and participating in breakout sessions of roundtable discussions with guest speakers.

Emmons and Higgins also will be part of a second event in Grand Rapids.

AND Thursday, March 26, from 4 to 6 p.m.

WHY:
Emmons is the Senate point-person on the issue of human trafficking and was successful in getting passed a bipartisan, comprehensive effort to protect Michigan women, men and children from human trafficking and helping put an end to the crime. The focus now is on awareness and making sure Michigan is doing all it can to support survivors and help law enforcement.

SCHEDULE:
For the March 25 event at the Capitol:
1 p.m. — Welcoming remarks, introductions and hearing guest speakers, including Cook County (IL) Circuit Court Judge Rosemary Grant Higgins.

3 p.m. — Hear testimony about trafficking during meeting of the Senate Families, Seniors and Human Services Committee, which Emmons chairs.

4 p.m. — Breakout roundtable discussions for networking and sharing ideas.
