LANSING – Sen. Phil Pavlov will join Lt. Gov. Brian Calley and state Reps. Paul Muxlow and Jud Gilbert at the Special Dreams Farm in St. Clair Township on Friday, April 15, to learn more about the nonprofit’s successful day program for developmentally disabled adults.

Open each weekday throughout the year, adults with developmental disabilities learn and participate in the daily activities of life on a farm including working in the garden and greenhouse, building fences, cutting grass, painting and general farm maintenance.

“The activities this farm provides help special needs adults gain confidence and find meaningful work in a safe environment,” said Pavlov, R-St. Clair Township. “The benefits of this unique jobs program are incalculable, and I’m pleased to highlight it to our lieutenant governor and the state as an example of a valuable and educational nonprofit organization.”

The farm plans to expand with additional program opportunities which include orchard management and caring for livestock.

“This program is very unique in our state, and is a great example of how we can help people with special needs thrive throughout their lives,” said Gilbert, R-Algonac. “The farm’s president, Larry Collette, has created an excellent program that gives many families support as they meet the challenge to find a way for special needs adults to continue to grow and build their self-esteem.”
