LANSING-Mich.—Pro-gun-rights legislators have invited Magpul Industries Corp. to become a part of Michigan’s reinvention. Twelve senators signed a letter authored by Sen. Mike Green on Wednesday urging the company to consider Michigan for the relocation of its Boulder, Colorado operations.
The letter was spurred by gun control legislation moving through the Colorado General Assembly that directly affects Magpul products.
On Feb. 15, the Colorado General Assembly passed an amended version of House Bill 13-1224 that would prohibit the sale, transfer or possession of a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds, or more than five shotgun shells. In addition to restricting the ownership of those items, the bill would also heavily regulate the manufacturing or assembly of them.
“Michigan, through positive, relentless action and bold reforms, is open for business,” said Green, R-Mayville. “Our workers are second to none. In light of the Colorado Legislature’s recent aim at Second Amendment rights, we’re encouraging this great brand to bring their plants and jobs to Michigan.”
When ranked in late 2012, Michigan was named the 12th friendliest tax system in America. Additionally, the state has experienced a ten percent rise in home sales and the creation of at least 65,200 more jobs since the beginning of 2011.
Magpul Industries primarily manufactures firearm magazines and accessories for both the civilian and law enforcement markets. The company and its subcontractors directly employ nearly 1,000 people in Colorado. In recent full-page newspaper ads, Magpul leadership has indicated it would leave the state and take all those jobs with it should the proposed gun control bills become law.
“Our company (Magpul) could not, in good conscience, continue to manufacture our products in a state where law-abiding citizens are prohibited from purchasing and owning them,” founder, president and CEO of Magpul Industries Richard Fitzpatrick said in a statement.
