Proos congratulates William Houseal on induction into the Order of Saint Barbara

LANSING—U.S. Army Major William Houseal of St. Joseph was recently inducted into the Order of Saint Barbara, a military honor society that recognizes individuals who have served, with distinction, in either a U.S. Army or U.S. Marine Corps Field Artillery unit and demonstrate the highest standards of integrity and moral character.

“Congratulations to my friend and long-time neighbor Bill Houseal for the distinct honor of being inducted into the Order of Saint Barbara,” said Sen. John Proos, R-St. Joseph. “The Order is named for Saint Barbara, the patron saint of artillerymen, and recognizes true American heroes for their devoted service to their country and their contributions to their community. I can think of no one more deserving of this rare and prestigious tribute than William Houseal.”

Brigadier Gen. Michael Stone awarded the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara medal to Houseal during a ceremony Tuesday at Whirlpool’s world headquarters in Benton Township.

“After serving America in World War II and the Korean War, Bill settled in Southwest Michigan to raise a family with his wife and begin a nearly 30-year-long career at Whirlpool,” Proos said. “His commitment to service continued here as he served on several local boards and committees, as a tutor for elementary students and as an active volunteer for many agencies. We are all forever grateful for his dedication to preserving our way of life and for his numerous contributions to our community.”

Houseal was also presented with a special tribute from Proos recognizing the honor and his service. The tribute was signed by Proos; Rep. Al Pscholka, R-Stevensville; U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph; and Gov. Rick Snyder.
