Sen. Dave Hildenbrand will push for additional funding for the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans to meet the needs recently outlined in a state auditor general report.
Hildenbrand, R-Lowell, offered the following statement on working to secure funds:
“The recently released audit of the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans identified some critical areas of need at the Home. As we continue our work on the state budget, I will be actively pursuing an additional $725,000 in the Military and Veterans Affairs budget to meet these needs.
“These areas include adequate psychiatric care, better utilization and inventory of food and medication, and better management of donated goods to the home. This will ensure that the home has the financial resources necessary to improve care for our veterans and to address these identified areas of improvement.
“I have discussed the additional funding with the chair of this budget in the Senate, who has expressed support for this effort. With limited dollars and many requests, this won’t be easy, but financially supporting our veterans should be a top state funding priority.
“We owe it to our veterans to improve the services at the home, and I will continue to advocate on their behalf.”
