LANSING, Mich. — Gov. Rick Snyder on Wednesday held a bill signing ceremony to formally approve legislation sponsored by state Sen. Mike Green, R-Mayville, that will provide financial assistance to communities that house moveable bridges.

Senate Bill 105, now Public Act 246 of 2016, will establish the Moveable Bridge Fund to assist local governments in paying for the operational costs of moveable bridges. There are currently 24 moveable bridges across the state, four of which are located in Bay City.

“Senate Bill 105 was crafted to assist locals with operational costs associated with moveable bridges and is estimated to save the Bay City and other local governments hundreds of thousands of dollars annually,” Green said.

The measure was recently approved by both chambers and was signed by Gov. Snyder on June 23. PA 246 was given immediate effect by the Legislature and became state law as it was signed by Snyder.
