LANSING — A resolution calling on Congress to fully fund the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter was introduced in the Michigan Senate Tuesday, said sponsor Sen. Jack Brandenburg, R-Harrison Township.

“The F-35 program creates advanced-technology jobs that build a highly skilled workforce essential to our national security and economic prosperity here in Michigan,” Brandenburg said. “We need this program to be fully funded for our country’s safety and the workers who depend on these jobs.”

According to Brandenburg, the F-35 is the most advanced fighter aircraft ever built and is needed to replace the aging fleet of military aircraft that has been in use for 30 years.

The United States has invested in the production of the F-35 for more than a decade and will lose the benefits of the investment if full funding and planned production are not continued.

“Senator Carl Levin and our other leaders in Congress need to recognize the importance of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter to Michigan, the country and our allies around the world and fully fund the program,” Brandenburg said.
