LANSING―State Sen. Darwin Booher, R-Evart, issued the following statement Thursday after the Michigan Senate approved the MiHealth Marketplace, a health insurance exchange needed to prevent the federal government from imposing its own program on Michigan:
“Michigan families deserve the ability to make their own health care decisions. This begins with being able to shop in a competitive arena for a health insurance plan that best fits your needs.
“I supported the MiHealth Marketplace to preserve this choice and prevent the federal government from imposing upon us a one-size-fits-all program.
“I am strongly against the federal health care reform commonly known as ‘Obamacare.’ I believe it is an unconstitutional overreach of the federal government into our lives, which is why I also supported Senate Resolution 95 to urge Michigan’s attorney general to continue his court fight to overturn it.
“Until Obamacare is repealed or overturned, we must act to ensure Michigan residents maintain control of their own health insurance choices. The Marketplace will prevent a federal takeover, encourage competition to lower insurance costs and be provided at no cost to state taxpayers.”
